The first song that I chose
that represents something having to do with the way that I think about my life
is “I'm Yours”, by
Jason Mraz. I first heard the song in my
guitar class last Spring before we
learned to play it. The song was very
cool and had a fun sound to it. Then, I
found out that the music was very simple, so it was easy to play. That made me really like the song. As I listened to the song more and more, I
would sometimes sing along. I started to
think about the words that I was singing.
The song has several messages.
The main message is that the person singing the song is telling someone
that he belongs to her. But, that is not
the message in the song that has to do with my life. The part of the song:
Well, open up your mind and
see like me,
Open up your plans and damn you're free.
Look into your heart and you'll find love, love, love, love.
Open up your plans and damn you're free.
Look into your heart and you'll find love, love, love, love.
reminds me that I should
keep my mind open and not hold myself back.
Also, the part of the song:
So I won't hesitate
No more, no more.
It cannot wait,
I'm sure.
There's no need to complicate.
Our time is short
No more, no more.
It cannot wait,
I'm sure.
There's no need to complicate.
Our time is short
reminds me that I should
not waste time.
The second song that I
chose that represents something having to do with the way that I think about my
life is “Keep Your Head
Up”, by Andy Grammer. This is one of
the songs that I learned in Summer Camp at Cheshire Academy thos yeay. This is also a really fun song. Everybody in my class seemed very happy when
we were singing this song. At the
beginning of the song, the person is singing about not having enough
money. Their bills are very high, and
they do not make much money. It sounds
like he should be sad about his life, but he is not. He keeps saying over and over “you’ve got to
keep your head up” and “You're gonna turn out fine”. The song helps me to have a good attitude,
even when things do not seem good at the time.
Sometimes, I am sad because I am away from my family. And, there are times when I have so much homework,
it seems like I will never finish it. The
words in the song:
Only rainbows after rain
The sun will always come again.
And its a circle, circling,
Around again, it comes around again
The sun will always come again.
And its a circle, circling,
Around again, it comes around again
remind
me that things will get better again.
The third song that I chose
that represents something having to do with the way that I think about my life
is “In My Life”, by
the Beatles. I learned this song during
Access Cheshire 2013, and the ESL Choir sang this song at the program at the
end of Access Cheshire. I liked the song
as soon as I heard it, but when we learned about the Beatles in my American
Culture class last fall, I liked the song even more. The song made me think about different times
in my life, and how things had been.
There were things that I had been happy about, and things that made me unhappy. After I came to the States to attend Cheshire
Academy, I really missed home. I kept thinking that everything would be good,
if I could just go back home. I spent
Christmas with my Aunt and Uncle in Hamden, so I did not get to go home until
Spring Break. Once I got home to China,
I was so happy, but things were different.
Things had changed. I realized
that what had made me happy was not ‘being in China’, but my memories of ‘being
in China’. And, I still have those
memories, wherever I am. It reminded me
of the words in the song:
There
are places I remember all my life
Though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
Though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All
these places have their moments
Of lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I loved them all
Of lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I loved them all
Personal Academic Goals for this Class

words.
2. To improve my English
writing skills to the point where I will not have to spend so much time correcting
assignments before I turn them in.
3. To become better at
speaking English and more confident when expressing my ideas in English
