The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a 2005 Tony Award-winning play. It is
a one-act musical comedy conceived by Rebecca Feldman, with music and lyrics by
William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin.
The
show centers around a fictional spelling bee set in a middle school where six
young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by three quirky grown-ups who
barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't
everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. ("UMass

In the
play, there is a spelling bee set at Putnam County Middle school. The spelling
bee is run by the three adults, and the six students are competing in the
spelling bee. One thing that is different about this play is that four people
from the audience are invited to compete in the spelling bee.
The play has won many awards and
been performed in many countries around the world, including Australia,
England, Israel, South Korea, Mexico and Hong Kong.
